Colour Chart + Mixing Colours

"You will each be given a colour sample sheet. With this, you are challenged to create a visual response to the colours provided. This can be anything visually that you feel is appropriate, but your use of colour should be considered to work with the individual swatch it is created upon.

This could be complimentary colours for harmony, or colours that clash to give impact or add tension. You could use the sheet to tell a story, or each image could work independently."

INITIAL IDEAS

- Warm up task

- Thinking about how different colours can have specific associations to different people

- Can stretch the imagination - how do these (left) represent blue?

EXPLORATION

- Wanted to create thumbnails for each colour

- Would allow me to explore how colour could be perceived from different angles and how it could be used creatively

- Potentially come up with ideas for digital and traditional illustrations on the colour panels

- Didn't complete all, thumbnailed most

NOTABLE SKETCHES

- Exploration into black and white/light and dark

- Removed as a symbol of ownership when getting married

- Women wear black ones of their own choice to feel sexy and confident, in lingerie

- Use of a delicate pink and a strong samurai silhouette

- Following research of colour pink

- More follow through of research into colour pink

- Very delicate pink to symbolise a samurai fighting, and a ribbon ballet dancer

- Follow sword and ribbon with same line of action

OUTCOME

EVALUATION

COLOUR MIXING

- Experimentation with colour mixing

- Painting in association to different given words or themes

- Possible avenue for colour story that I did not pursue due to it being fleshed out less than ideas for black and white

Mixed colours - new names with narrative potential
